Ruins of Roman Villa domizia
The beautiful island fascinates anyone who is looking for a crystal clear sea. Near Cala Maestra are the remains of a beautiful Roman villa of the II century A.D built by the family of Domizi Enobarbi. The villa is lined with marble mosaic floors, around a peristyle of six granite columns with marble capitals of Giglio. Currently, the Roman villa in Giannutri is closed for restoration. On the island there are no hotels and camping is prohibited but you can rent small private residences. There is a small square with a bar-pizzeria and a supermarket in Cala Spalmatoio.
On can reach the island by a ferry service daily in summer from Porto S. Stefano. In winter, the frequency is reduced. There are also vessels with departure from the port of Castiglione della Pescaia, Talamone, Porto Santo Stefano and mini-cruises and tours to Giannutri.
